2001 GTX 951 DI - Cylinder 1 full of oil?

Ok, so I bought an 01 GTX DI from a friend, he said his kids ran it out of oil, and it didn't run right after they got it back and added more oil.

He couldn't find the keys right away this season, so I just tore it open with out running it myself or doing a comp test.

I get it apart, rings/pistons look fine. Anyway, now I see that the front cylinder has a ton of oil in the bottom of the crank. When I spin the pistons over (I have the jugs off) the crank comes back up soaked in oil, as well as part of the bottom of the rod, as it it was submersed. Is that too much oil in there? If so, should I suck some out before I reassemble this thing?

Any idea on what might be the cause? Not firing? Oil pump? There is also a bunch of oil in the hull, even the lines that suck water out of the hull, are full of oil, as it was sucking out oil from the bottom of the hull inside the waverunner.
That spark plug for that cylinder was covered in an oily watery residue when I took it out.

I am just trying to figure this thing out, if there is anything I should do now while I have it apart, before I use this new gasket set, and reassemble it, just to diagnose what is wrong, (if anything!)

Thanks for your help

I would say the stuff in the cyl (crank) is a small amount of oil, and a lot of fuel. There isn't any way for oil to get in the engine unless it's running. On some of the other engines, with a rotary valve... the RV seals can leak, and fill the crankcase. Also... there isn't much room down there... so it's probably only 2 to 3 oz of fluid. Stick a paper towel down there, and soak it up.

Anyway... you can't tell anything while it's apart. So... put it together, and see what kind of compression you have.

As far as the oil down in the hull... I would say that the grommet on the bottom of the oil tank is leaking. (or you have a crack in the tank)
