Hi all,
Just joined the forum and would really like some advise.

Had my GTX a couple of years now, had the jet drive recon last year and everything was going well.

Last season the ski lost power and would not start, it had lost all compression on the front cylinder.

Stripped the engine down last week and found the piston rings totally ground down and the piston and bore damaged. I have had the crank checked and all seems fine :-). Gettting it rebored and ordering new pistons and top end rebuild kit.

My question is what else will I need, I know I need loctite but what sealant do I use for the crank case ect....

Oh and I managed to snap where the starter attaches through the crank case so having to have that welded :( thought it was all one piece.

Cheers in advance for your replys

sounds like something caused this to happen, I would be thinking fuel starvation (lean). Find the problem or it will happen again. New fuel lines, new fuel valve, carb rebuilds, and all filters. I always say maintnence is cheaper then repairs.

From what I can tell it was lack of oil, We were on holiday with it and ran it on cheap oil :-( could not get the normal stuff.

The top of the pistons were in perfect condition no detonation at all and the head was perfect.

Aaahhhhh, Ya oil is important. The 951's are pretty picky when it comes to oil, they want a specific synthetic. That sucks...

The 951 carbed motors have oil in the balance shaft housing. I think they hold about 30ml, there is a allen head plug in the block on the opposite side of the carbs. Some guys say 30 wt, some say pump lube (75w90), synthetic either way. The crankcase is oiled by the oil tank.
