Hi folks,

It's been a while since I have been on here, and been a while since I have been able to play on the water. Hope you all are doing well.

Anyway, I took my machines for a ride Sunday, my xp has been having an intermittent misfire issue the past 2-3 rides, but it has always cleared up, especially when bouncing around on the wakes. This time I took it, it would start and idle fine, but as soon as I took off from idle and put any load on the engine, it sounded like a constant misfire and would not go past 15mph. This happened for about 15 minutes, it would come out of it a couple times and hit ~45 ish before it would cut out and go back to misfiring (90% of the time)

So, i then shut down the engine, pulled each plug wire off at a time and put on the ground post and let it start with one cylinder hooked up to see which scenario was worse. It started right up both times but the mag cylinder seemed to be the weaker one. (Though neither one were smooth)

After that, I hooked both cylinders up again and tried starting it, no spark.(verified by connecting my screw driver to the plug wires and touching ground and no spark. I should also note that during this time (and I have seen this before when I had a crappy battery) the multi gauge lights and fuel LCD flicker during turnover, and when I noticed that, it had never started. So stranded out on the lake I swapped the battery with my running gtx, the gtx took off just fine with the xp battery. Tried the xp and same thing, no spark with the multi gauge flickering upon engine turnover (turns over very fast too so feels like the battery is strong)

I would guess my ground is ok because the starter turns over fast, and checked my rear e box and it is greased and looks great (so does the coil) but now even with a full battery (keep in mind I have tried 2 now that worked on my gtx), the 12v light is constantly on and no spark. Just wondered if you had any ideas. I am going to check for 12v at the coil leads tomorrow or when I get a moment, just wondered if you guys have seen this before. Thanks!

Double check all grounds and positive connections.
Then as stated above swap the rectifier out.

Thanks everyone, the motor is still pretty newly rebuilt so I am hoping compression is still good. I'll post compression after I can go test it. Hopefully next day or two.

If the pickup coil is bad, I would not see 12v to the coil right? I hope I don't have to take the mag cover off that looks like a huge pain.

Yeah this sounds like a pickup coil to me. Check the white wire on the coil for pulsating voltage as you turn it over. It normally gives a 12v automotive test light a faint glow as it turns over.

Guys,

I got lucky, my 15a fuse was corroded, not sure how it got water in it because the rest of the e box stuff looks immaculate. Anyway I changed the fuse and she fired right up! Thanks for the replies.

Ps. Sorry adam, looks like the coffman won't be up for same just yet. ;)
