1996 Seadoo SP dies if I try to accellerate-acts like it is starving for gas. The problem started out with it bogging down at higher rpm until you let off the throttle, then it would run OK at a lower rpm. The problem got progressively worse until it would only run at idle speed. If you give it some throttle it would die unless you let off the throttle. I checked the fuel filter, ran carb cleaner through it but didn't help. I had a mechanic who has a mobile maintenance service come look at it. He put his tester on it and said it's an electronic problem. I still think it's a fuel problem, but I'm no expert. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Larry

It's definitely fuel related!
Do you have the grey fuel lines? If so, change them!
You need:
25' 1/4 black fuel line. Sold at any auto part store.
20 hose clamps.
New fuel selector valve.
You need to:
pull the carbs and clean them out! There're 2 micro mesh filters in the carbs. That will be full of black gunk! Clean thoroughly!
Siphon any gas out of tank and clean out the baffle.
Pull the RAVE valves and clean those.
It sounds like a lot of work! With any mechanical inclination the job will take a full day! It should guarantee your ski will run like new!

All this worked for my '96 SP. I did everything except drain the tank and clean the baffle. Also I didn't change out the lines on the tank vent. I pulled the carb, tore that down on the gas inlet side. It was all goobered up and the little filter was black. Cleaned that all up and put that back together. Replaced all the gray gas lines. Replaced the fuel selector valve. Replaced the fuel filter that's mounted up front above the gas tank. I added an additional in-line fuel filter (from local auto store) in the line going to the carb. Maybe I should have drained the tank and cleaned the baffle but I figured if there's any junk in there that the two filters would catch anything before it gets to the carb.
Also I found out recently that you should always put an additive in your gas that helps keep the ethanol from messing things up too.
My SP is back to normal running condition now.

Sounds like you didn't buy a rebuild kit. I bought the rebuild carb kit, but I think I won't use it yet. Probably going to take the carb out and clean it. Also going to get an additional filter for the fuel line before the carb (do I know which line right away if I look).
So basically, any gray line you seen, it was replaced?
Where did you buy the fuel selector valve? Did you use a carb cleaner to clean all the carb parts & filter

I read not to use carb cleaner on those filters...after I did mine. Too strong, reco brake cleaner or a good detergent based cleaner with Q-Tips. You can just clean out the fuel switch rather than replace it, IMHO. I didn't bother with the grey vent line from the baffle but did clean the tank since I had the baffle off to retrieve the fuel gauge float in the tank anyway.

Kinda have the same problem with my xp! hard to get started, but when I do it idles fine but when I give it throttle it wants to die, and sometimes does. I am only able to hit a top speed of 50 mph. I had new rings put in the top and bottom end and that did not solve my mph problem. Should i go through my carbs?? and also I have stock fuel lines...please help!!
