i have a 1996 720 twin
when in the water, it will go about 10 mph, running rough,
if i lift the back end on my dock, it will rev up like normal, snappy like it should be, but as soon as its in the water it wont go. i can rev it up a bit on my dock and push it in the water and it will scream all over until i slow down and it wont plane out until i lift it back out again
changed fuel filters, cleaned carbs.
what could this be?? thanks for any help

It sounds like low compression, check your compression and post back, a healthy engine should be in the 140-150 range.

ill go check it. the motor is supposed to be fairly fresh. and it will fire up and idle all day. ill get back to you in a minute
thanks for the reply

does it rev in the water but not move..or bog when you try to get on plane...if its reving but not planing out you have cavitation and need a wear ring

nope if it revs in the water, im lucky, and it will pull hard, no cavitation whatsoever. it just bogs when i try to go, if i feather the throttle, i can sometimes get it to plane out and go like it should. otherwise if i just give it gas it will die. runs perfect outside of water. will idle all day in water also

it looks like this ski has alot of (mods) so it is going to be harder to diag this...let me give it some thought and maybe in the meantime someone else will jump in

alright, also it does have some grey fuel line, i heard it was junk, but it flows fuel fine and isnt falling apart into my filters
thanks

how do you know that its not clogging the filters?? ..the only way to know for sure that the lines are good are to remove everyone of them and cut them open and check....before we go any further i would redo them and when is the last time you have rebuilt the carbs

I was going to suggest checking the pop off on the carbs., but honestly with the mods. I'm not sure what it should be. For a stock 96HX the pop-off should be 36-60, I would go for the lower number.

I'm thinking before we get too deep into this, I think that Brock and I are just guessing, I'm just not that familiar with mods. I'm thinking we should get an expert to look at this thread. You out there Doc.

your carbs are gummed up on the inside ...you need to take them off .take them apart ,get to the little filter inside the carbs and clean it all with carb spray

put it all back together using new fuel line and you will be fine

do not touch any of the carb setting as it was dialed in fine before fuel line clogged it up
