1996 GTI won't start

Ok so I took the GTI out to the lake yesterday and it ran great for three runs then when I put the key back in to start it got nothing no power whatsoever I checked the battery and it seem to be fine took it out took it to a local parts store they checked it the battery had 12 volts bought a new battery just in case put it in the Seadoo but still nothing with the key in I can Ark across the solenoid and it will turn over however it will not fire is this the DTs system that failed where you plug the key in any suggestions would be helpful I need to know where to start looking
