When safety lanyard is connected to post get the standard beep then starter engages and turns over motor without pushing the start stop button. Once motor starts the start stop button does not shut down the motor, have to pull the lanyard off the post to kill the motor.

Initial thought was a bad switch, but not sure if there is a relay or solenoid down stream that could be the culprit.

thanks in advance for your help.

The switch would be my first guess too. There is a starter relay in the rear electrical box (next to the battery) that has a 12v connector from the mpem. You could disconnect that from the relay and the try again. That would test for bad relay. My guess though is the problem lies with your switch or mpem.
