Is there a how to/troubleshooting sticky thread for fuel gauges

Unrelated problems. Gas gauge problem was a bad wire going to the gauge and the starboard engine charging issue was simply a blown fuse in the sealed electrical box from when my stator went out. All fixed. It sucks the service manual doesn't have a wiring diagram. Would have been helpful.

Is there a how to/troubleshooting sticky thread for fuel gauges

Yeah I have some weird electrical gremlins. Now the fuel gauge stopped reading correctly again after a couple hours running and the starboard engine isn't charging the battery. Stator and generating coil both have the correct static resistance. I replaced the rectifier. New battery. Port...

Is there a how to/troubleshooting sticky thread for fuel gauges

The problem wound up being a bad stator on the starboard engine. Replaced the stator and the fuel gauge magically repaired itself.

Thanks........going to pull the pickup assembly from the tank and go from there.

Is there a how to/troubleshooting sticky thread for fuel gauges

My fuel gauge stopped reading correctly. It reads below the red then goes up above the red when you put the DESS key on the post.......so it's reading near empty when the tank is full. The orange low fuel warning switch blinks. I saw mention in other posts of a how-to guide but the links...

1993 587 dual carb strange ignition issue. Kill switch/ post?

Fixed now. I replaced the MPEM with a cheapo from Amazon and a stator from OSD parts. Also a new stator wiring harness. No issues now. Important to note I did not replace the kill switch or tether switch which were working correctly despite the symptoms.

1993 587 dual carb strange ignition issue. Kill switch/ post?

I already tried swapping my old battery for a brand new fully charged AGM battery.....no change. I also tried a different tether switch....no change. Also have a brand new tether so the cap is super secure. In an unfortunate turn of events, after testing the MPEM my son accidently set the...

1993 587 dual carb strange ignition issue. Kill switch/ post?

It ran minutes before I tested the MPEM but still had open circuits on the reverse rev limiter and reverse CDI test. Buzzer test failed also. Passed the other MPEM tests. Got an el cheapo MPEM off Amazon coming.....will see what it does after the new MPEM goes in.

1993 587 dual carb strange ignition issue. Kill switch/ post?

I'm having the same issue. All switches test fine. Mine is intermittent. When it was cranking without spark a tap on the kill switch would also allow it to start, in addition to the tethering and retethering you described. Mpem or stator? Please let me know if you make any progress and I'll...

Is it safe to jump start from Noco GB150 booster pack?

I keep a booster in my boat because sometimes the stereo gets played for hours. I've probably used it a half dozen times. Zero problems with the MPEM. I've used it on a variety of jet skis. No problems there either.

    stator wires 717

Either it doesn't matter or I guessed correctly. Boat charges and runs fine. Other than the confusion on the wires, I'm very happy with the OSD replacement stator.

    stator wires 717

I just swapped a 4 wire stator. The stock stator and harness has a yellow/black wire and a solid yellow wire (along with black and red/black). The replacement stator has 2 solid yellow wires (along with black and red/black). Does it matter which of the two solid yellow stator wires go to the...

    '98 Challenger 1800 pump & impeller question

I have both brass and plastic pumps for my sportster. As you've probably noticed plastic pumps are much more "open" as the center housing is smaller and they have less spokes. I can't tell a difference in performance though. It's much easier to get a new wear ring into a plastic pump. On my...

    Has anyone used this oil?

I use it. Works great and much cheaper than XPS. I also have experience with it on MX bikes and top ends wear as normal. Didn't gum any powervalves up. I wouldn't mix it with other oil.

    intermittent beeper

Same here. My beeper works intermittently. Though it seems to work better either early or late in the year, not much at all in the summer, so I think it might be temperature related.
