What is this weird whining noise?

Thanks. I pulled the top end tonight. And it looks ok…. I do suspect the whining is coming from somewhere along my drive train. But now I’m wondering why would I have my compression reading < 110 psi on both cylinders when they look ok? Perhaps they are over bored, I'm hoping its not a more...

What is this weird whining noise?

1996 Sea-Doo SPX I started hearing this weird whining noise. I did verify the shroud was not hitting the shaft. Pump was rebuilt two seasons ago, wear ring (on the drive shaft) was replaced about three years ago. But maybe it could be one of those? ‍♂️ My compression is low too, I plan to...

    How do my plugs look?

Thanks @POPPS! Just an update. I notice when I’m idling the skis rpms seem to fluctuate. It’ll act like it’s running a way then bog down a bit and speed up again. Sometimes the bog gets so bad it kills the ski and I have to restart and the behavior continues. Plugs look good, but do you think...

    How do my plugs look?

Rear cylinder Front cylinder Carbs recently rebuilt and set to stock settings. Spark plugs pictured have about 2-3hrs on them SYMPTOMS - runs fine with fresh set of plugs riding solo at first. Good power and throttle response. - after a few minutes of running, throttle is not as...

96 SPX slow acceleration- performance issues

Yeah, thought so @POPPS. So, that said I’m guessing it would be the main cause for the issues? The crappy thing is this is a newly rebuilt engine I put in last summer.....

96 SPX slow acceleration- performance issues

Hey guys. I have a 96 SPX, currently experiencing some performance issues - slow acceleration under load, usually when doing hard turns or taking off. When I pull the ski out of a turn or during take off, it takes a few seconds until it hits the powerband, usually when it gets on plane -...

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

Thought I’d give an update! I was chasing my tail on this. After installing a new motor, and observing the old one. I believe my crank was just going bad. When I sunk my ski in salt water way back last year, I didn’t know what I was doing and tried to start with a hydro locked motor too many...

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

Ok, thanks @POPPS I appreciate the info. I'll be sure to richen the high speed screws 1/4 of a turn. I had it set to stock at 0 turns. I'll leave low speed at 1 1/4

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

thank you for that insight...this is what I was doing. New plugs, full throttle briefly, shut off while wot, pulled them and they were white....that lead me to believe I was running lean WOT... so what’s the right way to checknew plugs for tuning carbs? I guess I had no idea what I was doing and...

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

Check this out! PTO side, tons of metal shavings in case....MAG side, nothing....

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

Taking a look at this: Piston Diagnostic Guide. I definitely have the 'black spot hot' condition, there are black marks on the underside of my piston. This guide states either a lean fuel mixture, or cooling system failure. It seems like I might be dealing with both? I have a newly rebuilt jet...

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

Well this is why I stalled and could not restart last outing. My motor seized up out there. This is the next day after having heads off and checking that starter would turn over: This is the moment my motor completely seized. Shortly after ending the video I have a new motor coming but...

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

Stiff rod bearing (seized engine). Damn it..... Well I guess now I’ll take a chance on an SBT motor. I see a lot of mixed reviews, but I really want to get this motor back in the ski ASAP while I still have some warm weather left. Wish me luck.....

Low compression - overheating - fouling plugs. HELP!! (96 SPX)

screw it, I'm getting a new engine. I broke down, started pulling things apart and decided it's just time to rebuild. Thanks for the help so far! I'm in too deep to give up on this thing now.
