I'm on the Ohio River in Pittsburgh so we don't have that many serious waves unless a cruiser goes by plowing. That's what did it yesterday. I will check them for sure though.

I have used plastic cutting board as backing plate in applications like this. It looks good and won't rot.

I agree the Laundromat is the way to go. You may have to re-waterproof it after though. I have had great results with 303 Fabric Guard. http://www.goldeagle.com/product/303-fabric-guard
