    Redneck TPS sensor replacement

Maybe not such a good idea afterall I measured my bad TPS and I'm reading about 120K ohms maximum. Rotating the shaft slowing causes the reading to bounce all over the place. It goes from ~120k down to 0 ohms. I'm wondering if this high reading is part of the failure mode. I now seem to...

    Redneck TPS sensor replacement

My TPS sensor just went out for the second time on my 2001 Challenger. As a temporary fix I'm getting one of these from Ebay: SLIDE POTENTIOMETER ALPS 20K LINEAR I will cut off the wires to the TPS and run the three wires from the engine to the drivers seat somewhere and duct tape the pot...

    240EFI Adjustments

Since I'm going to be replacing my trigger assembly soon I thought I would check the timing settings on the engine. The manual is OK explaining it but it could be better. Once I'm done I will post what I found confusing and explain it along with photos. For instance the manual mentions an idle...

    Oil pump/gear failure

The Yamaha oil pressure experiment didn't work. I had to get my boat working first before I could try it. I had a bad TPS sensor. I rev'd the engine to 6k rpm and the sensor never went off. I'm back to square one. I'm going to try and find a sensor that works down to 1 or 2psi.

    Place Trim Kit

If I put the plate all the way down at high speed the boat can over steer. I wouldn't recommend lowering the plate all the way down if you are going over 35 mph. I usually only lower it just enough to stop the porposing. I tap the toggle switch up or down to where the ride smooths out and I...

    Problem with my Challenger 1800

Yes I'm taking my boat to Mission Bay and San Diego Bay more often than I used to. The local lake (El Capitan Reservoir in San Diego ) charges about $50 for the boat and four people to go on it for the day. I'm sure if they had used some good wire this wouldn't have happened.

    Place Trim Kit

Did you use the correct fluid? Is it full? Just asking.

    Place Trim Kit

I have the same Place Diverter on my 2000 Challenger (yr 2000) and it works great. I wouldn't want this boat if I didn't have the Place Diverter. I have had some wear & tear isssues over the years and needed to replaced the cylinders. I haven't had it cause the boat to pull to the side...

    Problem with my Challenger 1800

Repaired TPS The TPS (P/N 14851004) was bad but the great news is that I was able to repair it and saved myself $450. Just like the trigger assembly, they used really low cost wire. The wire is bare cooper with low temp insulation. When I cut the wires half way between the connector and the...

    Problem with my Challenger 1800

I looked at the wiring from the trigger unit to it's connector and one wire broke off just moving it around. Very poor quality wiring material was used on these trigger units. I decided to cut the wires off at the connector and solder them at the other end. The wiring was so bad under the...

    Problem with my Challenger 1800

Did you ever solve the problem with not being able to rev above 3500 rpm? I tested my boat today for the first time this year and it won't rev above 3500 without dying. The fuel pressure is good. It starts fine. Has a new battery. I'm going to test the trigger unit tomrrow. The exhaust...

2000 islandia using 1 gallon of gas for every mile

The PN is 13536A14 and I got it at my local Mercury Parts Dealer. You will also need some thermal heat sink compound when you install it. Radio Shack has the compound. The manual says that the temp sensor can increase the fuel mixture by 40%. I think the sensor costs around $25 or $30. I...

2000 islandia using 1 gallon of gas for every mile

I noticed an improvement in my gas mileage after I replaced the temperature sensor on the engine (Passenger side). It also starts better when the engine is warm. That was the problem I was trying to solve but it also increased the gas mileage after I replaced it. It think it controls the...
