    1996 GSX Build

Thanks so much! I know the SM has most everything i'll need, but I also wanted to see what everyone else was running especially knowing GGuillot has the same exact ski. When I get the new kit all put in I'll update how it goes. Considering she's already running pretty solid, I can't imagine a...

I think what caused the backfire is that the bad coils would only fire as soon as I pressed the button or when I let off the button, so if I held start for 5 seconds and then let off, the coils would spark and light all the fuel that built up. But yes, I know i need to do the carbs the right...

    1996 GSX Build

Alright. Iv'e done a whole crapload of stuff since I last posted. I tried the coat-it stuff and it was transparent and not at all what i was looking for. It did seal the gouges in the bottom, so that was nice. I then rolled on some blue rustoleum enamel i had laying around to cover up the ugly...

I talked to Nick from Westside Powersports. Seems like a cool guy, but he was looking for more than I was willing to spend. He wanted less for the right side gsx one than most people on ebay, but i can't beat a pair of better cutting sponsons for $35 + shipping. Thanks for the suggestion though...

Oh... I saw XP limited and it didn't register in my mind that that = XPL. Sometimes my brain just doesn't work. I looked at their website last night and they seem pretty cool. I can give them a call and see if they can beat the price i found on ebay. Thanks!

Will these fit? They appear to have the same bolt pattern... I had to do quite a lot of digging just to find these.

    1996 GSX Build

No worries. I've got another question on a completely different topic. The right sponson on my ski is completely cooked. To buy a 1996 gsx sponson off of ebay is going to be $80. However, there was a 96 gtx one for $25 with free shipping. Are they the same or completely different shapes? Also...

Here’s the product description for that coat-it stuff I’m going to try on the bottom side... Coat-It is formulated with ceramic beads for abrasion resistance, graphite to give it slip or lubricity and Kevlar® fiber for extreme toughness. It's a superior, waterproof epoxy sealer that will...

    1996 GSX Build

Thanks for the input. I got the manuals all bookmarked and I've got a descent bearing as to where to find what. I just ordered the locktites i needed and some yamabond. I got that new hull and it was solid but the gel-coat was trashed, so i went ahead and gave her some paint. ***Let me preface...

:ambivalent: The truth hurts :ambivalent: I'm getting my new hull tomorrow. While I'm out, Ill pick up the parts I need and do it all over again. At least I'll be able to sleep at night knowing I did it right. Thanks for all the help

I used a little rtv to seal the case. I oiled the daylights out of everything during assembly. I did not tap the threads, I've never heard of doing that before. I did however clean off the bolts and followed torque specs as close as I could. I haven't yet done a pressure test. I searched online...

    1996 GSX Build

The engine is outside of the ski. I am actually getting a donor hull on Sunday. I did heavily oil everything during the assembly (IE lube the crank and rotary shaft, coat the timing wheel with oil and then put more oil in it and spin it a bunch, put some in the cylinders before assembling and...

    1996 GSX Build

That's a good idea. I hadn't considered that. I have a question that seems like a stupid one, but I'm still curious to hear what the experts say... So after putting my engine together, I noticed it was kinda hard to turn by hand. It does spin smooth and freely without any clanking or anything...

    1996 GSX Build

I recently got my crank and gaskets in. When reassembling the engine I lost some parts so I just had to reorder them. I somehow lost my woodruff key and counterbalance shaft cap. I decided to order a gasket kit off eBay for $60 that came with every seal and gasket for the engine which was pretty...

    1996 GSX Build

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so here’s an update... I am still waiting to buy a new crankshaft so the engine is in pieces, but while it’s been apart over been doing some cleaning. The most significant thing is that there was a noticeable amount of carbon/rust on the top of the cylinder...
