I tried an SBT needle and seat in a carb once. It wouldn't seal or pop off reliably. They replaced it 4 times and they all did it. I gave up. Genuine Mikuni from then on.
That being said, I have an SBT engine that seems to be top notch.
Does anyone know what stock low speed jet the 717's in my 98 Sportster 1800 should have? I have 3 new carbs for my two engines and all came with 70. I have the original factory carbs for my engines and they have 70. I looked in 3 other scrap carbs that someone near me had and they all had 70...
I've tried but the screens keep bouncing out. I'm going to try alligator clips as a temporary measure to hold them in next time I'm out. Also, next time I have it apart, I'm going to look closer at the metal frames that hold the plastic on to see if I can install them upside down without the...
Huh? I don't think you are understanding me. A link to literally ANY of them would suffice. I just need something, anything (besides the factory intake), to temporarily keep foreign objects out of my intake. Right now I don't have anything but stock and I need ANYTHING BUT stock...
When I first got my 1998 Sportster 1800 (dual single-carb 717's) the PO had some aftermarket open-element air filters / arrestors on it. They used an aluminum adapter on the top of the carb that basically turned it into a flared hose connection so that the rubber elements could clamp onto them...

Anyway, I don't think it's the metal that is the issue.
OEM diaphragms are no longer available. Aftermarket is all there is now. But they're not rusting per se. They're just getting clogged with that typical white dust that forms all over everything in salt water environments. I've tested my fuel for other reasons, too. There's no water in it.
I cleaned my accelerator pumps and replaced the diaphragms right before this season started. We've been boating less than 2 months and one of them has already corroded and frozen up again. I took it all apart. cleaned it out again, freed it up, and it's working again now. But are there any...
