    Need advise

I agree with your assessment that if the seller is refunding and letting you keep the MPEM and key then it probably might not be a working unit. I've seen Westside Powersports recommended a lot on this forum. They sell used parts and I believe they stand behind them. Call them and explain your...

    Need advise

The first question is where did you get the OEM MPEM and key from an how do you know it is working unit?

1995 GTX,New Solenoid and starter, and still clicks.

The schematic for your ski also shows a black battery cable running from the battery negative to that same connection point you are cleaning up. That cable is the main ground for the engine and starter.

    97 xp not starting

There is a black ground wire that goes from the base of the solenoid to a bolt that is on the base of the ignition coil that has 4 black ground wires attached to it. Remove the bolt, clean it up and the clean all the connectors that go on it and reassemble it. Check with an ohmmeter that you...

what is voltage on the starter side of solenoid when start button pushed?

Try shorting across top of start solenoid to see if starter cranks. If not then suspect starter or cables/connections to it.

1995 GTX,New Solenoid and starter, and still clicks.

A multimeter tests with a very low current and might show close to 0 ohms. It would not show if the cable was internally deteriorated and will not pass the high current that the starter requires.

I think it would be worth it to remove that cable and temporarily replace it with a car jumper cable from the solenoid post to the starter positive post and see if you get the starter to crank the engine using the start button.

Things to check before using a abandoned jet ski

Also if the gas and oil are of unknown age or unknown oil type, drain them out (tanks and crankcase) and flush the tanks if dirty. Also change the oil filter.

Things to check before using a abandoned jet ski

If it has gray fuel lines then they need to be replaced, the carbs rebuilt with genuine mikuni kits following the sticky post at the beginning of this forum. Clean the fuel strainer. Change the jet pump oil and check the condition of the bearing, impeller and wear ring and pressure test it when...

1995 Seadoo Gtx, new solenoid, but still clicks.

While it probably is the starter, it would be worth charging and having the battery load tested before pulling and rebuilding the starter. If the starter is the OEM Seadoo then definately rebuild it instead of replacing it with aftermarket.

    Starter engages, MPEM good then?

I guess it depends on the price with all the unknowns. Does the MPEM give the 2 beeps when the key is placed on (good sign but probably not all functions of the MPEM are checked)? Without the starter you can't check compression or tell is the trigger coil, MPEM, CDI and coil are producing spark...

if you see spark and put gas straight in then check compression as mentioned.

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

I missed the part about your bad battery. That can effect the spark as well as cranking. First, never jump your ski battery from a running car or a jump pack that is charging - you could blow the MPEM. It is ok to jump a free standing car battery or a non-charging jump pack if it is equivalent...

Test for spark either with an inline tester or pull a plug and ground the threads to engine ground while cranking. There is also probably a resistance test for the ignition coil and plug wires in the shop manual if you do not get spark.
