Age limit for riders on Sea Doo

Hey guys & gals... Does anyone know if there is a specific age that a person has to be to be able to ride a JetSki by themselves? I have two nephews that are 14 & 15 and I was wondering if there aloud to ride by themselves.

I am not sure about the laws in Texas...but up here in Ontario, Canada a rider has to be 16 years old and have a valid boaters license.

in VA is 16 minimum too.

In Alabama, it's 12 years old to operate a PWC and 14 to operate it on your own.

My point is, this question is one that will vary from state to state because it's not under the federal guidlines.

You'll need to go online and look for your state laws under water safety.

In Florida its 16 but if you are 16 or 17 you must complete a boating safety class before you can ride alone. At 18 the class is no longer required.

Ironically, I'm glad there's a law here in Ontario to be 16 AND have to have your license. My 17 year old niece is hopeless at operating anything with a wheel, and my 15 yearold nephew is a gangster. I'll use any excuse to keep them from operating alone. besides, even if they were of age/certified, I would use insurance as the final excuse... :-)

am I a horrible Uncle? ( incidently, their father won't let them or anyone else touch his boat...so it comes back around i suppose).

Horrible uncle?..........nah, you make me feel worse. Here in Alabama, you have to take a boat safety course and pass a test before you can drive. My wife has been wanting to drive for so long......and of course, I don't want her to. It's MY toy!....well, last month, she surprised me. When we were out, she wanted to drive. I said, "you know the laws".......well guess what. She pullled out her license and showed me her endorsement!.......I thought I was gonna cry. Then, when I let her drive the boat (I could no longer use the license as an excuse) I swore I'd never ride in the boat with her again. She scared the living crap out of me. I was so nervous. Her coming so close to piers and other boats..........man, I couldn't wait to tell her the boat was out of gas.

Well, since then, MY boat has been under the carport. I got the carbs off. Told her that one needed rebuilding.............so, am I a bad husband?.....probably. But I don't want her to wreck MY boat!......I'm re-building a motor for a ski as we speak. I'll give it to her and let her learn how to operate a jet that way. Not with me on or in it!............

NO not a bad uncle just want to keep you nice toys nice.... Ill tell you my folks would only let me drive there shi*ty car when i got my lic, it was a purple saturn 5speed )aha bad idea), no air and didnt even have a tape deck and guess what i went through more tires then i can count, broken rocker arm, motor mount, clutch, bent the sub frame and control arm just to name a few I did pay for everything though...... Im glad they only gave me the shi*ty car, imagin if the let me drive there Vette HOW pour I would be....ahahaha dont do it, dont let them drive it.
