I thought you could get Black, Yellow and possibly Red in 2000, also that was the first year for the Merc M2 set-up. The SK has the hard bow cover for storage where the standard speedster has the bow seat, or as I like to call it--the bouncy seat. If he's going by the gauge I'd say it wrong, GPS is the only way to be sorta accurate. But no major difference.

98-99 SK's had twin 720's where the plain Speedster had the twin 787's. Supposedly the SK's with the 720's were at a better power range for skiing--hence they were the SK models. I like the 787's for skiing, power is at a different range so generally I'll ski around 4500+/- RPM, but weighing 230# that's not a problem for me. For others, I just tell them to hold on and enjoy the ride, let go when your tired!

The M2 is the Merc Jet set up, a single jet tied to a Merc 240--one engine, one jet. For some a nice set up, I like my twins so I can limp home on one if needed, I'm not much of a rower if you know what I mean.

They both had mercury motors in 2000. The standard speedster was 240 HP, the SK was 210.

That hull must have alot of drag or weight. My 16.5' ft Tango with the 240 merc was holding 68mph on the speedo 2 days ago. Granted it was just me and my son with 24 gals of fuel on glass-smooth water, but I think most Tango owners with this setup regularly hit 65mph on the gauge.

A guy I know has a 02' Speedster with the 240 and his does 65. My 18' Challenger has a 210 engine that maxes out at 5500 rpm and does 52 with the wind at my back. The 240 can do 6000+ rpm. Additionally, his boat is shorter and lighter (less drag). There's a reason why it's called a Speedster!

I've never been in a Merc powered Speedster... but I know that 240 can push my HUGE islandia into the upper 40's, and it's upward of 4500 Lbs with fuel, 4 or 5 people, fresh water, and gear.

I'm sure they can get into the 60's.

i was out with my buddie yesterday in lake ontario had some 2 foot to 4 foot waves i had it at about 60 some spots maybe more cant see the speedo lol. i'd say it would do easy 60 on open water . i think its faster when there is a little wave the boat seems to skip across. it was reving at 5900- 6000
