Default 1997 XP vs. 1999 GSX

I'm the proud owner of a 97 seadoo xp, it is a blast to ride but it can be a little much, its tippy in the water and when the waters rough it makes it difficult to stop and take a break, I might have an opportunity to trade for a 99 gsx with a 951cc motor, i just want to know what experiences people have with it, if it is as tippy as the xp and what not, and i dont think its a 3 seater is it? thanks for helping

I have 99 gsx rfi. I am 300+ lbs and its a little tippy at the dock but my kids have no problem with it tipping. With me once I'm going its great. I have 787 engine its plenty fast. And it spins on a dime. Way better then the newer ones.

The GSx will be MUCH more stable... but it won't be as agile. (can't cut a corner like the XP can) Also... it will actually support the weight of 2 people.

I'm assuming that the person with the GSx is local to you. I'd say, go take it for a ride, and make your choice.

I'm not going to be able to do vinyl or carbs for a while. Starting my new job is taking a lot of time

Just more confirmation that the GSX will be much more stable. I have a GSX Limited, and riding by myself it is very stable. If I ride another adult on back, it can get a bit tippy, but with me and my kids I have no problems. A very fun ski to ride.

GSX is crazy fun, stable, and a good time. the XP is tippy, but the XP is wicked fast around a track in the turns... the GSX slides and spins out, while the XP gets low and cuts in...

I've ridden both, and found the GSX to be super fun, but I prefer my XP.

I was surprised at how fun the GSX was, but I like the turns in the XP a bit more. I'm 160 lbs and ride HARD. the XP is a work out to ride hard, thats for sure, and your right, you never get a real 'break' on it... the GSX might be more your ski if that's what you want.

I rode a few ski's in the past 2 days:

HX (wicked fun if you can get on it), needs to turn tighter.... nothing seems to turn like my XP.
XP not 951 (so slow i wanted to die)
    XP 951 (mine)
GSX (more fun than I thought it would be)
    GTX 02 (wife's)
    GTX LTD 99 (wife's old)
Kawi X2 (OMG, PITA to ride, but kinda fun)

Let's not be bashin' the XP's. They are your little brothers... so you have to be fair. The XP has been around for a while, and the old (non-spring seat) had the 657, 720 and 800 engines in them. If running correctly, all of them will be in the 50 mph range... and the X4 will out corner even your beloved parobolic hull.

(sorry, just bustin' your chops )
