Default 95 XP to 95 GTX carburetor swap

I am a novice mechanic replacing the carburetor on my 95 XP 720 38mm carbs. The reason I am replacing - after replacing the gray fuel lines, wanted to rebuild the carb. One of the bolts is basically fused to the carburetor (PTO side) and will not come out. The top and bottom of the bolt have been sawed off (to remove it from the manifold).

I've ordered a pair of carbs from ebay, however they are from a *1995 GTX (also a 720 / 38mm bore). The carburetor's are connected with a bracket (mine were separate) and seem to be 90 degrees out from the ones on my XP. Also, some of the fuel line ins are different. Will this setup work if I rebuild and simply attach? Or do I need to disassemble the pair, and install them configured the way my originals were? Looking for the easiest way with the best outcome. Thanks in advance!

The 95 GTX has a 657x engine... but you can make the carbs work. Are you getting the manifold too? If you are... use it, and you can make it a bolt on project. Otherwise, you will need to take all the hardware off your carbs, and rearrange them to work with your manifold.

Also... the jetting is close, and the pop-off is low. So, I would rejet to the XP specs.

    Main 135
    Pilot 67.5
    Pop-off 40-56
    High 0
    low1-3/4
    Needle and seat 1.2

Honestly... you should have looked for a set of 720 carbs int he same configuration. It would have been an easier project.

I'm not going to be able to do vinyl or carbs for a while. Starting my new job is taking a lot of time

    Dr Honda,

Thank you for the reply. You've assisted me before and always been helpful. You may be right, I think the carbs were mis advertised. No, I do not have the manifold, just the carbs. I was planning on rebuilding anyway, so rejetting was planned.

How much of a project am I in for making these work?

It should be too hard. You will want to remove the throttle and choke shafts from your carbs, and put them in the new carbs. That will allow you to mount them properly. Other than that... you should be OK.

If you can get your carbs apart... you can take the jet's out of them, and put them in the new carbs to save a few $$$.
