Default 1995 Sea Doo Xp Problems

Hey Guys, I am new to sea doo's and I need some help. I bought a used 1995 sea doo xp. The unit started up and ran fine until I fell off of it. I could not get back on and tried several times. Alot of water in engine compartment. I finally got it started but it has no power and only will run for a very short while then cut off like it is running out of fuel. While in the garage I put new plugs in it and it ran like new. Then I put it in the water and it ran but had No power at all then quit. Hope someone can help with this Thanks

I would check the electrical and spray it down with WD-40 as it will help displace the water. Leave the cover off and let the sun do it's thing too so it will dry it off. than replace the plugs with good ones and fire it up. Hopefully it will be ok...it just sounds like it got real wet. Keep us posted on your progress...

Karl, Thanks for the advice. One more question. When I run the sea doo at full power I can padle faster than it will go. When in the water it will not rev up and go it will just idle with the throttle turned wide open. What electrical parts do I spray and that was more than 1 question. It will run at idle in the water and then quit like it used the fuel up in the carb. It kind of acts like there may be water in fuel system but I do not know. I filled ski up before use. Thanks for your help.

Ok , make sure the fuel tank isn't contaminated with water. Check the oil injector tank too. Drain and refill if necessary. You might have to open the small electrical boxes in the engine area to see if everything is dry. Chances are the engine got real wet and just needs some drying out. Get it started and run the heck out of it. If you have to run it on the hose. For up to 5 minutes.YES, you can hook up the hose to the seadoo and have them run for up to 5 minutes. Connect the hose and start the seadoo. Turn on the water after it is started. Turn off the water, than shut down the seadoo. This way it won't allow water to back flow into the engine through the exhaust due to no back pressure from the engine not running. The bearings and seals on the impeller jet pump are cooled from being in the water. When it is on the trailer it doesn't have that cooling effect so they will get hot after about 5 minutes.
I pre start my seadoo's too, dry before I leave for the launch too. Just for a second or 2 to be sure it will start at launch. Once it gets to the water run it for as long as you can.
