That hopefully is a good sign for you. Sounds like the diodes in the voltage regulator are probably shot. Fuses should all be ok (the don't care which direction current flows).

Having the dash lights is kind of odd sounding to me. Did you notice any smoke or smell anything burning? If no you hopefully just fried the relay. You can get a volt meter that can check ohms from Home Depot for maybe 10 to 15 bucks. I'd start by checking the voltage regulator and relay. Check...

They come out easy. Use a flat head screw driver to pry the inner pin from the outer plug (there is a small groove for the screw driver to fit in). Most likely it will pop out but this is ok. It's easier to reinstall them separated anyway

There is no drain on it but it is removable. I tried the ice packs yesterday with a few bottles of water in it. Kept it cool at best. I have several small coolers like you use I'll give one a try next time I'm out. Thanks
