Listen to WhiskeyD…. When I got my first ski I also tried to clean the carbs without rebuilding with all new mikuni parts and new gaskets….short story… the motor lost compression due to an air leak… It was a $1100 lesson… read the service manual and ask folks how to do leak tests on the carbs...

Send it to Jess at Westside Powersports. He can test it… and likely has a used one. Fantastic service and turnaround times.

Update: I replaced the compressor with a new one. The key thing was getting the o-ring installed correctly… after that … onto the next thing… I discovered the spark plugs weren’t to spec… ugh.. I got some NGK ZFR4F 11 4043 per the manual. Replaced the air regulator… and it starts and idles...

Update: I hooked up the computer to the ski. It's reporting a low battery & a bad temperature sensor... pretty sure temp sensor shouldn't affect running when it's cold. Also pretty sure low battery shouldn't cause low compressor pressures... I'll replace the battery, however. I then hooked up...

Ok… a baby step. I replaced the compressor input to the fuel rail with an ~80psi source from my shop air compressor… The system starts and runs… albeit a little rough. I then took the fuel rail off to inspect the pressure regulators. The air regulator had some particulate in it…I blew that off...

@etemplet: is the performance of the DI that noticeable? Are you referring to the smoothness of the running… just trying to understand.

I would check grounds in the black box by the battery. Take the wires off the coil and clean with a wire brush and reassemble. I have several 98 GTXLs and they often times have had bad grounds… with similar symptoms.

Tx again! I was struggling to get all the required breakin time on a 951… so far I’ve only used 1/3 tank of premix… haven’t had time to get back out… it takes forever to burn through a 15 gallon tank….
