I am new to skis, and rebuilt a seized 1998 Sea Doo GTX RFI (new OEM crank/pistons, etc). Motor starts up great and then I turn on the hose to flush the system. After about 2-3 minutes, I get the beep for the overheat (continuous).

I have not yet put in the driveshaft, but the jet pump is in the ski and all together. All hoses are connected and crimp-free, and I get water out the exhaust, by the rear hook latch (it sprays out horizontally), and from underneath I think in the grate area.

I should be able to run this longer in the driveway, correct? Any ideas on this, as to what it could be?

Thanks!

Yes, you should be able to run it for longer. Is it possible you didn't align the gaskets properly when rebuilding? Or possible that something slipped into a cooling area?

If not, then maybe the carbs are set far too lean, thus inducing overheating?

There could be many ways to find a solution to this problem... If you rebuilt, I'm sure you have access to the manual, but are you sure you put your water lines back in their original configuration. If your getting water from all the areas you describe, then it does seem that you should have proper flow. The next time you do this, and you get the overheat beeps, fill the water coming out by hand, see how hot it feels to you. Feel around the engine, the piston heads, do they both feel like both cylinder walls are equally warm, or does one feell hotter than the other? You may have a bad gasket on one of your water jacket ports at the cylinder head and there's always the possiblity of a bad heat sensor.
One big thing that should be checked is your timing. If you did this engine yourself, did you check the timing setup? If the timing is advanced just a little, this too can cause your engine to run hot.
Have any more info to share or if you find your problem, let them forum know, this sounds like a problem that others may face in a rebuild......thanks for sharing!.:)
